PHYSICAL PRINCIPLE
- When a piece of metal like a steel bar is loaded by a force or a pressure, its changes its magnetic specifications as a function of applied stress. The load changes magnetic properties and such phemonena is called Villari effect.
- The figures to the right show the relation between the tension caused by the force F, the magnetization M and induced secondary magnetic field B.
- These effects have been studied in different types of steels charging them with different loads and measuring the changes by magnetometers.

THE MMM METHOD
- The MMM method belong to magnetic methods family. The MMM has a passive nature that is different from active magnetic methods like Barkhausen noise.
- The magnetic field of a pipeline changes vector and amplitude of natural geomagnetic field. Such changes and variations are registered by magnetometers fort post analysis.
- The pipelines without defects present uniformed homogenious magnetic field field (Hp) without distorsions.
